What is Podcasting?
A good podcast show should provide value to your listeners. It should give them something they use as a “takeaway” or something of value for their use at a later time. If your show is just a long-winded commercial for you or your business: it will flop. Obviously this will result in no listeners over the long run and it will defeat the entire reason for podcasting. Understand this: the social media known as web 2.0 requires that you “interact” with your listeners. You need to give them something they can use, something of value. If you fail to do this, listeners will leave and your show will be a flop.
I always suggest that podcasting should be thought of as a new form of communication with your clients, potential clients or new fans. As part of a successful podcast show, you need to understand what you are going to be giving to your listeners. Remember, it has to have value to them or you won’t build a good listenership.
Podcasting can be thought of as your own TV or Radio station, but served on the Internet. It’s a simple concept when you think about it. You have your own show hosted on the Internet! You can perform a monologue, have a guest, or even invite a co-host on your show. You decide the topics that you will discuss! Sounds fun, huh? Well, it is, but there are some guidelines for successful podcast shows.

Podcasting positions you to be an expert in your field, a subject matter expert (SME); which is vital to marketing today. Your listeners will bond with you as an SME and, as a result of that, you will become a trusted advisor. These “trusted” positions then allow you to become a “thought leader” in your marketplace.
Podcasting can do all these things for you and your company! Podcasting is a simple, yet extremely effective, tool to push your company and you up out of the business noise and into the light for all to see. If your offerings are good, then you will enjoy new business. Unfortunately, the inverse is true too: if your offerings are poor, then you will have few clients. As I said earlier, podcasting isn’t a “get rich quick” scheme. Rather it’s a long-term strategy so that people can get to know who you are and what you stand for… Or as Steven Van Yoder puts it in his book: Get Slightly Famous! That’s what podcasting can help you do: Get Slightly Famous!!!!
