Now, let’s digress for just a moment. If you take a morning paper, you subscribe to it, and you don’t ever have to worry again if that paper is going to be on your doorstep in the morning.  That is, of course, unless you don’t pay the bill!  Well that is what an RSS feed does for web 2.0.  Once you have a person on your website, blog or podcast, they can subscribe to it via push buttons set up

RSS Feed is a “software” that allows you to get information “pushed” to you.  With web 1.0, you needed people to come to your website, and keep coming back to get more or new information from your site.  This is a difficult thing to do, that is, be top of mind awareness of a website, and to get someone to “go there” each day to see what is new.  Frankly, they won’t, they didn’t, and that is what helped to cause the downfall of the Internet in the late 1990’s.  The term they used in those days was “stickiness” of your website.
on those sites.  You only have to get them to click once, and you have them!  Now what? Well, every time the subscriber opens their “aggregator”, like iTunes, it goes out and finds if there is any new content you put up on your blog, podcast, or website!  If so, it retrieves it and moves it into your subscriber’s “play list” for consumption. RSS feed subscription is now built into IE7 and Firefox, just to name a few.  You get on a site you like and want to subscribe to it, push a button and your browser does the rest for you! It’s that simple.  Hey, Real Simple Syndication (RSS).

What this means is that you only have to get viewers, readers or the like to push that button once, and they are yours.  They can always Unsubscribe too, but we know your show will be so good, they won’t do that!
RSS Feed Icon used on many web pages.
Podcast Subscription is like the morning newspaper, you don't have to think about it.
