What if I my firm won’t let me put my podcasts on their site?
1. Get your own website, as I discussed in the previous section.
2. See if your company would link over to your website or a podcast host page.
3. See if your company’s IT manager might be willing to put a “linked” player on their site.
Well darn, huh. Many business websites don’t let employee podcasters add their content to their site for many different reasons. All of these reasons, I’m sure, are valid to the IT department or management. Don’t despair. There are several options if this happens to you:
Some times, detours side-track marketing!
Before starting your entire podcast strategy, you should consider discussing these options with your IT group and or company management. You might find that they are very excited about what you are doing and what recognition it will bring to the company. They might even be excited enough to help you with your IT needs from the aspect of linking to your site, or some of the other options discussed.
Understand that IT professionals are basically worried about bandwidth, storage size, and exploits to their site. In the first option I suggest, there is nothing your IT department needs to be concerned with at all. In the second option, all that is needed is a simple link to your site, which should not be any threat whatsoever. The third option is very straightforward because the “linked player” code comes from a reputable podcast host like Blip.tv. This code is so simple and checked often for any issues that might damage other “linked” websites.
Company IT Professionals don't always like to link to the outside world or allow other "user" generated content to be placed on their servers.
